Description

The Performer Wellness Technician reports to the Resident Artistic Director.

Roles and responsabilities

  • Demonstrate an ability to perform the functions below regarding performer related/athletic injuries, prevention, assessment, recognition, treatment (including emergency 1st aid), disposition, and reconditioning;
  • Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing and fitting of athletic or show related equipment;
  • Carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/or cast member physician;
  • Conduct physicals under the direction of the Medical Director;
  • Apply preventive and curative treatments for the performers;
  • Make assessments and provide diagnosis of work related injuries and accidents;
  • Work closely with the Resident Artistic Director to assist with developing training programs for the performers and with evaluating the performer’s needs regarding physical conditioning exercises required for corrective or preventive measures;
  • Make recommendations regarding the nutrition and physical condition of the performers within the scope of his/her competencies, and assist in the development of Wellness programs appropriate to the needs of the performers;
  • Attend rehearsals and performances for the purpose of administering first aid and the appropriate emergency measures in the event of an injury to the performers;
  • Work in close cooperation with other members of the emergency team, in the case of injury or a medical emergency;
  • Participate in the decision making process concerning changes made to training or performances in the event of injury or illness of a performer or any other occurrence, which might cause modifications to the normal process of training or performance;
  • Maintain and update the medical file of each performer daily. Each file must contain a summary of all services and treatments rendered;
  • Update the Resident Artistic Director and the General Stage Manager on the status of the performers before each show;
  • Arrange medical appointments and follow-up appointments for the performers, attend medical appointments and provide necessary information to the attending physician;
  • Complete insurance forms required for filing insurance claims for injured or sick performers;
  • Support the performers at all times by assisting with their Health Services and Wellness needs;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in health related field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in sports therapy having worked hands on with professional athletes;
  • Must have at least two (2) years experience working in clinical therapy, emergency response and rehabilitation.

Other Skills and Requirements

  • Maintain Licenses and CPR/First Responder certification in accordance with the respective institutions;
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure and be able to react quickly to unexpected situations with tight deadline;
  • Must have excellent manual therapy skills;
  • Knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span of the performer is an asset;
  • Able to assess data regarding the performers status and interpret the appropriate information;
  • Knowledge and experience in Pilates and Massage Therapy is an advantage;
  • Must have up to date training in the latest methodologies of the profession;
  • Must be flexible and able to quickly adapt to unexpected situations, to work with a varied schedule and tight deadlines;
  • Knowledge of PC based systems and MS Office software;
  • Must be willing to attend rehearsal and training sessions both during creation and operational periods and to work an extended and varied schedule when necessary;
  • Must have a willingness to define, practice and conform to safe working procedures;
  • Knowledge of PC based systems and MS Office software;
  • Fluency in English is required and ability to speak/understand Cantonese is an asset.
